Q. Why do you have so many characters?
A. I love people! was born in Florida, and from there, I moved to all kinds of different places, including Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, Kuwait, Dubai, and Ras Al-Khaimah, and I've been to visit many more. I've met lots of different kinds of people and I love the endless possibilities that come with each unique individual's story. I want to explore the lives of people who barely get represented in popular fictional media.Q. What inspired you to become a writer/artist?
I taught myself how to read and write so I could read my mom's Garfield and Calvin & Hobbes comics, and from there I got into all kinds of books. Anything ranging from the Warrior Cats series to Greek mythology to Shakespeare or books off my mom's shelf like Summer of the Monkeys and Anne of Green Gables. I also had a textbook on horses, which is where my love of animals really began (and I still have it). As I grew older, I got into Mike Mignola's Hellboy series, and that will always be my favorite work of horror fiction.Besides books, I grew up in the Blockbuster era and my mom would let me pick one movie every time we went there. The movies I could watch over and over without getting tired were Labyrinth (1986), and Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy movies. Animated films like Spirit (2002), Coraline (2009) and Studio Ghibli played a big role in my love for art, and my childhood dream was to be an animator. As I grew a little older, I started watching the works of Wong Kar Wai, and his movies now play a big influence in my writing.Q. What do you do for fun?
A. When I'm not drawing or writing, I also like to hike, cook, learn choreography and cycle.
